HTMC: Aiea Ridge 5/29/11

May 29 Sun 8AM @ Palace ‘AIEA RIDGE

(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/’Aiea)

Another of O’ahu’s long trails that require stamina and determination to place your footprints on the Ko’olau summit.  Fine views abound but watch your footing.  Pay no attention to the old tale of some fleet-footed fool who once fell from grace.

Coordinator Kevin English, kevin.english@htmclub.org or 271-5125.

HTMC: Dupont 5/22/11

May 22 Sun 8:30AM MEMBERS ONLY DUPONT

No Meeting @ Palace

(10 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Waialua)

Expect a long and steep climb to the top of O’ahu's highest peak (4,000' elev gain). There are narrow treacherous dikes along the way,and thorny blackberry vines (gloves?). The summit view is often socked in, so Darrell may need to do his "Dupont Dance" to dispell the clouds.

Coordinator Darrell Teruya,teruyadt@worldnet.att.net (preferred) or ph 227-4572.

May 8 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY CASTLE

RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: LIMIT OF 50

Reservations accepted beginning 8AM, April 25 No Meeting @ Palace

(12 Mi/Advanced/Ridge-Contour/Punalu’u)

This historic trail (1906) is an HTMC favorite. A series of gentle switchbacks lead to a summit notch, then the trail drops into a remote and misty valley, thence onward to Kaluanui Stream. Hardy hikers may continue beyond, for a glimpse of a tall feathery waterfall (clouds permitting).

Coordinator Ralph Valentino, ph 864-8130.

HTMC: Kaunala 5/7/11

May 7 Sat 8AM @ Palace KAUNALA

Some forest trail hiking and some dirt-road strolling will make this pleasant Ko’olau foothills jaunt appeal to the pedestrian in us all. Mind the ribbons to insure picking the correct route for a safe return.

May 1 Sun 8AM MEMBERS ONLY KULEPEAMOA RIDGE
No Meeting @ Palace – Call Coordinator for Rendezvous Info

(6 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Niu Valley)

This advanced loop hike has an unrelentingly steep ascent, a very narrow summit crossing (occasionally dicey), a steeply dropping "tree to tree" descent, and then a meandering exit stroll through a shadowy and mysterious valley.
