No need go to a haunted house today. Kahana Valley has plenty of ghosts, goblins, and black pigs. They’ll run you right up to the top of the baddest mountain on the island. Hiking costumes required. Extra caution is required on the steep and narrow sections. The club first climbed to the peak on October 28, 1923

From Manoa Cliff Trail we veer off down the Nuuanu Trail above Pauoa and skitter down, down, down ‘til we emerge from the pines at Jackass Ginger. Now, how do we get back up? Ask the coordinator, Wil Kawano.

We first hiked this loop on October 26 of 1919 when we roamed the forests above Makiki via a series of interlinking trails that somehow brought us back out again. Pay attention to the ribbons and the group, otherwise you may discover new, unknown trails all by your lonesome.

It's a killer of a loop hike up to this pointy peak in Kahana Valley.  Use the ropes, the tree trunks and branches when climbing up the narrow, near vertical ridge to the standing room only perch at the top.  Use caution again on the return route which is also very steep being ever watchful as you dodge those loose rocks.

Oct 10, 2010 Sun 8AM @ Palace TRIPLER

Distance = 12 miles
Rating = Advanced
Type = Ridge
Location = Moanalua
Coordinator = Kevin English
Club last hiked this =

This route to the Koolau Summit follows an undulating ridge trail behind Tripler Hospital (thus the name), and returns the same way.  The upper portion tends to be muddy, and has narrow sections, so watch your footing.  The breezy lunch spot perches atop the sheer cliff overlooking Ho'omaluhia Park.

There's a ten-miler that runs at the 900 feet level along the face of the Pali from Waimanalo to Pali Hairpin. Mostly contour, it offers peek-a-boo views of the windward coast, lush vegetation and a nice workout.

A short but very steep trail, which ascends O’ahu's highest peak (4,025 ft.).  Extra caution and a bit of climbing are required in spots.  At the summit, explore the Ka’ala bog, and possibly enjoy a fabulous view, clouds permitting (rare).
