Call the coordinator as early as possible if you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, since these are required, and the number available will determine how many hikers can participate. The summit is a Jewel in the Crown with breathtaking views.  The trail holds a potpourri of native plants, including patches of Lobelia on the downward slopes.   HTMC first did this hike on July 14, 1935

We tread lightly in the footsteps of HTMC hikers who have gone before us, as this 4000’ ascent takes us through a landscape that transitions from pastureland to pristine native vegetation. This trail traverses sections with steep drop-offs and requires caution. First hiked by HTMC on July 24, 1920

One of the old CCC trails. HTMC first did this hike on March 28, 1920. It’s a long but pleasant graded contour trail to the Ko’olau Summit. Follow the abandoned irrigation ditch past tunnels and a dam, then zigzag and climb until you reach the summit overlooking Kahalu’u and Kane’ohe Bay. Pay attention to the turn around time so you don’t come out in the dark!

HTMC: Halawa Ridge 5/9/10

May 9 Sun 8 AM Halawa Ridge 100-Mi

(14 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/Halawa)
Coordinator Patrick Rorie, ph 342-0617
Club last hiked this:

After an initial steep climb, we’ll access the CCC contour trail which leads leisurely (and lengthily) to the Ko’olau Summit, overlooking Kane’ohe and Ha’iku.  Ignore the sounds of H-3, or pretend it's a wild river cascading alongside the trail.

HTMC: Malaekahana Ridge 5/2/10

May 2 Sun 7:30AM MALAEKAHANA RIDGE

(10 Mi/Advanced/Ridge/La’ie)
Coordinator Kevin English, ph 271-5125.
Club last hiked this:

This long uphill trail above La’ie begins on hot dirt roads, ten enters a thick guava forest, which eventually turns to native vegetation near the Koolau Summit (your goal). Half way to the summit, you may opt to detour to a refreshing waterfall and plunge pool instead.
